Understanding Melasma
Melasma is a common skin disorder. It is a brown patch, a tan or dark facial skin discoloration and is particularly common in women, especially pregnant women. The symptoms of Melasma are dark, irregular patches commonly found on the upper cheek, nose, lips, upper lip, and forehead, which often develop gradually over a period of time. Melasma does not cause any other symptoms beyond the cosmetic discoloration and is an acquired hypermelanosis of sun-exposed areas .. It presents symmetric hyperpigmented macules, which can be confluent or punctate. It is usually diagnosed by the typical appearance of brown skin patches on the face.
